Pina Bausch Gallery WUPPERTAL DANCES

Pina's idea behind her international co-productions was to try to absorb the feeling of a city and its intangible atmosphere and transform it into movement. She wanted to understand what meaning a place has for people. To do this, Pina Bausch traveled with her company to selected cities, trying to absorb what was specific and local, and then transform it choreographically into dance in Wuppertal.

We want to continue spinning these danced "city identities" of Pina in public space: International StreetArt artists are invited to be inspired by the "World Theater Pina Bausch" and the international co-productions (a total of 15 pieces) and to implement them as murals in the urban space of the 10 districts of Wuppertal. The StreetArt artists come in each case from the cities of the dance co-productions: The cultural coloring of the dance art should be reflected in the cultural coloring of the mural art.

WUPPERTAL DANCES are 10 murals for 10 neighborhoods - 10 dance stories, 10 countries, 10 artists, 10 views and 10 vistas... This is a piece of internationality for every Wuppertal neighborhood, a message of understanding, a performance of the different cultures, captured in movement and transformed into art.

WUPPERTAL DANCES is an extraordinary homage to the Wuppertal choreographer Pina Bausch, her work, her dance theater as well as her ensemble. They are the images of a woman who set out to explore movement, to set us in motion.
