Mural Ten Chi - Domagkweg 46
The Pina Bausch Dance piece TEN CHI from 2004, created on a trip to Tokyo and co-produced with the Saitama Prefecture, Saitama Arts Foundation and the Nippon Cultural Center, meets the Japanese woman Juuri from Oklahoma Citywhose vibrant works are inspired by traditional Japanese motifs and painting techniques.
The name of Pina's dance piece TEN CHI means heaven and earth. These are also the contrasts that Juuri associates with Tokyo and Japan - the country between tradition and modernity. Juuri tries to balance these opposites in her artwork. A diagonal design is intended to represent Pina's dynamic dance. Juuri interpreted the cherry blossom petals that fell during the piece as snow. And the implied flag refers to Japan.
